New Delhi has intensified its diplomatic efforts regarding citizens serving within foreign military ranks. During recent high-level bilateral discussions, Indian officials strongly urged Moscow to secure the early release and safe return of dozens of nationals currently enlisted in Russian armed forces.

According to diplomatic updates, approximately fifty-five Indian citizens remain tied to the Russian military structure. This number reflects ongoing challenges in repatriating individuals who traveled abroad under various employment pretexts only to find themselves integrated into active military units amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The issue has been a persistent priority for Indian foreign policy makers over the past year. Previous rounds of talks between New Delhi and Moscow have already resulted in the successful discharge of a portion of these individuals, though authorities acknowledge that work remains to bring every affected citizen back home safely.

Families back in India have frequently sounded the alarm after discovering their relatives were deployed to combat zones. Many of these citizens were reportedly drawn in by promises of lucrative non-combat jobs, logistics roles, or educational opportunities, only to face contract alterations once they arrived abroad.

The Indian government has repeatedly issued public advisories warning job seekers against accepting dubious employment offers that promise foreign military support roles. Officials continue to coordinate closely with Russian counterparts to expedite administrative procedures for the remaining citizens awaiting clearance.

Bilateral channels remain active as both capitals navigate the complex logistics of demobilization and repatriation. New Delhi maintains that the security and welfare of its diaspora abroad are of paramount importance in its foreign relations.
