Scotland's Cameron Menzies claimed his second professional darts victory of the season by defeating Gian van Veen in the final of Players Championship 29. The tournament, held in Den Bosch, concluded with the Scottish competitor overcoming the home-country favourite to secure the trophy.
Menzies established a commanding advantage early in the championship match, surging ahead to a five-to-zero lead against his opponent, who holds the third position in the Professional Darts Corporation rankings. Although the Dutch contender attempted a recovery, Menzies maintained his composure to close out an eight-to-four victory.
Reflecting on his performance after the match, Menzies expressed immense satisfaction with his second ProTour triumph of the year. He noted that securing four ProTour titles across his five years on the professional circuit represents a solid achievement, while outlining his future aspirations of claiming a major title and making a strong impression at the World Championship.
The 26th-ranked player acknowledged that his dedication has intensified significantly over the past year following a period of personal uncertainty. Earlier in the season, Menzies contemplated stepping away from the sport after sustaining a hand injury during a frustrated reaction to an early exit at the World Championship.
His journey to the Den Bosch title required victories over several challenging opponents. Before reaching the final showdown, the Scottish thrower eliminated Kevin Doets, Jeffrey de Graaf, Wessel Nijman, Benjamin Pratnemer, Jim Long, and Nick Kenny.
This latest success adds to an eventful campaign for Menzies. In July, he secured a tournament win at Players Championship 23 in Leicester and subsequently achieved a notable victory against world number two Luke Humphries at the World Matchplay before illness halted his progress in the following round. Earlier in the year, he also represented his country for the first time at the World Cup.
